Land resources
One of Sellia Marina's main activities is agriculture, thanks to the goeographic position and the features of its land. Apart from vegetables, such as tomatoes, cauliflowers and aubergines, another important crop is peach, well known all over Europe for its high quality and varieties, such as "Springrest", "nettarine" and "percoche".
Other crops that reach good quality and quantity are citrus fruit and olives.
Typical products
Agriculture is a very strong element into Calabrian landscape and particularly in Sellia Marina area.Fields with grain, peach, citrus fruit and olive trees are as common as pastures with sheeps, cows and goats, often attended by their shepherd. Many people have their own kitchen-garden where grow tomatoes, aubergines, peas, beans, which are destined to family usage, fresh or preserved in traditional ways: for example tomatoes are cut in slices and put on trellis in the courtyard to let them dry.Sheep milk cheeses, ricotta cheese and other dairy products are home made, even if this tradition seems close to disappear.
The land in the zone of Sellia Marina is also rich of wild fruits: blackberries, white and black mulberries (probably heritage of the silkworm nurturance) grown on the boundaries of roadsides and people usually pick them to eat them fresh or to prepare jams.
